Chai tea isn’t the type of tea you typically drink for health reasons. Health is on few peoples top ten lists of reasons to drink chai tea. It is a rich and creamy, but also spicy tea that can warm you up to every pore of your being. People drink chai to feel warm again, to awaken tastebuds and to just drink something amazing. Chai does have a lot of health benefits. Because it is more a smorgasborg of ingredients than straight tea leaves – everything in it has something to offer. The ingredients alone are reasons to drink Chai Tea.

Cardamom, one ingredient in the tea, helps stimulate the brain ,increases appetite and soothes the mucous membranes. It also helps relieve gas, heartburn and nausea, settles upset stomachs and is effective against allergies caused by dairy products. Cinnamon  fights colds, flu and sore throats. It is also used as an antidote for diarrhea, stomach upsets and to help ease menstrual cramps. Ginger  is commonly used as a digestive aid and contains compounds that ease motion sickness and nausea. These healing qualities can be attributed to its high Vitamin C and antioxidant content. This root is also useful in fighting heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. It is also great for improving sluggish circulation.

There are even more ingredients and reasons to drink Chai Tea. As it is often combined with black tea, it also carries all of the blood pressure benefits with it as well. Even more, it’s one of those teas you’re allowed to be a little unhealthy with. It is a drink of heavy cream and swirling sweetness thick and warm. Even with the milk and the sugar, the spices still have health, even if you have to drink Chai, traditional style in moderation.
