Waking up can really be a traumatic experience – that alarm blares again and again, your eyelids are heavy, and you feel extremely bothered and warm. Or if it’s winter – really cold. When you pull yourself from the comfort of your bed, you want something wonderful to keep you out of it. One surefire thing is a good cup of tea. A warm steaming cup of black tea that will fill you with the life energy that was zapped from you by the previous day. A break between waking up and realizing the all of the tasks and items you have to go through today, before you have to put your face for the world. That break doesn’t have to stop there – your whole breakfast could be filled with the wonder of tea. You could try some Earl Grey Oatmeal. This overnight recipe via Leanne Bakes will take that horrible morning to just right.
Calming Overnight Earl Grey Tea Porridge
Leanne Bakes
Yields two servings. Or one giant one.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups water
2/3 cups rolled oats (I just use the quick cook ones)
2 tablespoons Earl Grey Tea
1 packet Natural Calm by Natural Vitality
any toppings you’d like
Directions
Bring the water to a boil, and steep the tea for 2-3 minutes. (Sometimes I will let them sit for up to 20 minutes, but it depends on how you like your tea). Remove the tea leaves after steeping, and allow to cool. Mix in the Natural Calm packet, stir well to dissolve, then add the oats.
Keep refrigerated overnight, and enjoy in the morning! Serve with some milk, fruit, honey, or sugar.
This recipe will provide a great way to refresh your morning and start your day right. Imagine all of different teas you could integrate into just oatmeal – from green to white, to even herbal teas, it’s a great way to integrate tea and add new flavors. Tea could be what’s for breakfast, and that’s a morning to look forward to.
